The Mozambican Ministry of Health is to conduct laboratory analysis of Frozy soft drinks produced in the country, Noticias learned on Monday.
The tests follow just days after Malawian authorities announced that the soft drinks, imported from Mozambique, were harmful to public health.
According to Nivalda Bomba from the National Water and Food Laboratory, whenever the quality of a food product comes into question, the first step is to examine the contents, in collaboration with other entities.
The next step lies with the National Institute of Economic Activities (INAE), which collects samples and sends them for laboratory tests. Only after the inspection can the Ministry of Health make any pronouncement on the matter.
The producer of the soft drink in question refutes the outcome of the Malawi tests and says it has evidence of good quality, but Bomba says that is not sufficient grounds for approving or banning products.
“We do not we rely on past results. Each turnaround is different from the others. We are waiting for the INAE to do the inspection and submit the samples for us to be able to conduct the examination,” she says.
